A Few Things About Us
A dream years in the making
At the heart of our retreat is a partnership that was forged through a shared love of adventure, fuelled by a passion for hospitality, and sprinkled with a generous dose of humor and curiosity. We’re Pablo and Grove – two globe-trotters with a fondness for good food, great music, and, of course, cats.
Our story began in 2013 when we met in Sydney, Australia – a city famous for its stunning harbor views, outdoor lifestyle and thriving coffee culture. We both had jobs that kept us on the move: Pablo was a software engineer for over two decades, spending much of it in the travel sector (yes, we know all your “flight search hacks”), while Grove was working as a video producer, marketing “jack-of-all-trades”, and event manager.
A cat-obsessed adventure
The idea to run a bed and breakfast didn’t emerge overnight. It first came to life on our very first trip together to New Zealand. It was there, amidst breathtaking landscapes and memorable stays, that we thought, “Why don’t we do this? Run our own B&B?” Every trip we took after that only grew the idea, until it was an itch we couldn’t ignore.
Though we’re from different corners of the world – Pablo hails from Uruguay, while Grove has roots in South Africa and New Zealand, and the UK – our shared love for travel, culture, and hospitality brought us together. But, let’s be real… it was probably our shared obsession with cats that sealed the deal. We’re definitely “cat people” through and through, and our three cats, Mufasa, Eva, and Zoe, are part of the family. They even made the move with us when we relocated from Australia to Cornwall in November 2023 (yes, the cats are quite the travellers, too).
A small journey through history
We first came to Cornwall on our honeymoon, and, just like that, we knew this was the place where our dream of owning a B&B would become a reality. Grove’s family has deep roots here – with ancestors from St Just, just a short hop away from Sancreed – making this spot feel even more like home. The picturesque views, the sense of calm, and the charm of the local community were too perfect to pass up.
So, here we are, welcoming guests to our Cornish hideaway. When you stay with us, expect more than just a place to rest your head. With Pablo’s culinary passion for creating delicious breakfasts (and yes, you’ll probably want a second helping) and our combined love of meeting new people, we’re all about making your stay special. We love hosting, whether it’s over coffee in the morning or swapping travel stories in the evening.
The real rulers of the house
As for our cats? Don’t worry – they’re around, and they’ll happily make your acquaintance if you’re a cat lover (or even if you’re not, they’ll win you over eventually). Mufasa will greet you with a regal roar, Eva will charm you with her penetrating gaze, and Zoe… well, Zoe’s a mystery we’re still trying to solve.
